- Heart of Australia began in 2015 and is the brainchild of Brisbane-based cardiologist Doctor Rolf Gomes.
- The service delivers monthly specialist care to Dalby, Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi, St George, Quilpie, Charleville, Roma, Childers, Biloela, Moura, Banana, Theodore, Blackall, Barcaldine, Longreach, Winton, Cloncurry, Hughenden, Charters Towers, Moranbah, Emerald and Middlemount.
- The expanded services brought about by the introduction of the HEART 4 truck will include Sarina, Proserpine, Ayr, Cooktown, Richmond, Rolleston and Springsure. Static clinics will be provided in Palm Island and Weipa.
- The fleet of Heart of Australia trucks has travelled more than 500,000 kilometres.
- The new routes will see Heart of Australia travel on average 20,000 kilometres per month.
- Heart of Australia has seen more than 11,000 unique patients over the past six years.
- Heart of Australia has saved more than 400 lives to date.
- From July 2019 to July 2020, Heart of Australia saw 6,197 patients at 492 clinics, saving 4,018,8634 kilometres if patients needed to travel to Brisbane for specialist care.
- The HEART 4 truck took more than a year to build, and the build was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
- It is a custom, 34-wheel articulated rig built to the standard B-Double road train measurements of 26-metres.
- The fourth truck has two consult rooms and two tech rooms.
- The truck also has waiting area verandas, a wheelchair access lift, full kitchen, AV systems with screens and projectors, a reception area, full air conditioning and toilet facilities.
- There is more than $1 million worth of medical and IT equipment on board the truck.
- The truck can be self-powered for up to 10 days using diesel, batteries and solar panels.
- The truck isdriven by a DAF XF 530 prime mover.
